First class travel on El Chepe railroad

We started our Copper Canyon trip from the charming colonial town of El Fuerte, also referred to as the gates to Copper Canyon because of its convenient location. We took a tour of the city and learned about its colorful 400 year old history and the intrepid carter of El Zorro who was born in El Fuerte. After a comfortable evening at Hotel Torres Del Fuerte an old restored mansion we were driven to the the train station for our first trip aboard  El Chepe, the Copper Canyon Railway.

07The train arrived on time and within 10 minutes we were on our way, the staff was friendly and courteous, directing us to our seats and informing us of the restaurant and bar service. A few of us did not wake up early enough for breakfast so we headed over to the restaurant car. The traditional chilaquiles were outstanding, the views from the over sized widows were just beginning as we started climbing up into the canyons.

As I had read before, the Copper Canyon train ride is one of the most exciting trai rides in north America. The most impressive part of the trip had canyons, cliffs and waterfalls views as you travel along the 37 bridges and 86 tunnels to get to the center of Copper Canyon.  I spent most of the journey between the restaurant and the bar cars because the larger widows were much better then the seating cars.

Copper_Canyon_340The return trip was just as nice but not as exciting as the first time. There is no better side to seat on, the views change constantly, around every turn there is something to see.

Yes, it is an incredible train ride, the accommodations are excellent the staff very friendly. If you have the opportunity to make this Copper Canyon journey in the future, I highly recommend it, its beautiful.
